The Goal of wireless.farm is to create one of Canada's first decent rural community Internet Projects.
Guelph/Eramosa Township has like many other rural areas been subject to price gouges by Cellular services as the only viable and reliable access for internet, In some pocket areas we have small providers providing service these are at a fraction of the speeds the city has and tend to be unstable at times.
In this phase we will start rolling out of wireless point to point and mesh technology, We need internet this year not in 5-10 years when grants have been awarded.
Employing this method initially allows us to get large chunks of internet from the city and easily distribute it without having big ugly towers everywhere, and also to get into some of those troublesome areas where trees and valleys are an issue.
Most government funding programs don't seem to go anywhere, so we have decided to build this as a community, participation of neighbouring properties is key.
Fibre and even Coax are both cheap but unless we all work together we cannot do nice long runs that benefit us all without spending massive amounts of money. The difference becomes running cable through backyards vs having to pay for road permits and dig through concrete.
